Off-topic discussions that do not fit into any other categories.
So, you’ve stumbled across Sudonix, love the themes, and wish you had them on your own NodeBB instance?

Well, very soon, you can 🙂 I’ll be uploading all of the themes plus the master CSS to a private Git repository - you’ll need to contact me for access to it, but that also means you’ll get the latest and greatest as I release fixes, updates, etc.
In addition, I’ll be uploading the jQuery / JS code I’ve written that’s in use here also (for example, the dynamic category panel)
Because of the amount of work I’ve put into this over time, a donation is very much appreciated (but not mandatory as that would negate the very service this site sets out to provide), and a backlink from your site to mine (which is mandatory).

I saw this article earlier, which piqued my interest
https://news.sky.com/story/netflix-hints-at-crackdown-on-password-sharing-after-fall-in-subscribers-12594439
The streaming giant estimated around 100 million households worldwide are watching its service for free by using the account of a friend or another family member, including 30 million in the US and Canada.
Did they seriously think that password sharing to reduce overall costs amongst friends and family wouldn’t be an issue ?? Like Zoom, Netflix enjoyed a huge uptake in user subscriptions during the COVID pandemic, and now of course, that revenue will be in freefall as people return to their jobs and are spending less time at home.
Surely, they must have realised that such a surge couldn’t last ? Now it seems they are getting greedy - if they decide to start including ads in a paid service, I’ll be cancelling my subscription for sure. The whole point of subscription services is not to receive ads in the first place !
So Im sure every guy who likes Tech ignores thier partner /significant other for periods of time.
You know how it is, when that bug needs fixing, it is the focus of your world.
3 months ago my partner started making jokes that my computer is my true girlfriend! Once she tried to snatch my phone out of my hand because I had been coding on it, on a day out.
I ignored her warnings that she was becoming bored and lonely.
A month ago she left me, for a slightly younger guy. And apparently its not coding theyve been doing morning, noon and night 😞
In the minimal messaging contact I now get; She is saying her new life is going well, and is having fun, and she feels valued.
Feeling very sick about it. I would say sick++ !
Really wondering if other Techies have had the same issues with human relationships?
Is being this into computers even compatible with ‘married life’?
Proton have launched a password manager if anyone is interested.
It’s only launched today, so I’ve began testing… So far so good.

How’s it going @katos?
Hope you’re well?
https://www.securitymagazine.com/articles/97276-meta-fined-186-million-for-data-breaches-that-violate-gdpr
Long overdue in my book. It appears now the previously untouchable Meta now has a chink in the armour. 12 data breaches impacting the security and privacy of 30m European Facebook users, and they think they can simply shrug this off ?
Think again. They are not above the law 🚔
@phenomlab I guess this should be another thread, but after you post this meme, I wonder about your opinion on the new techniques to omit passwords…

Apple, Google, and Microsoft are going in this direction I guess.
I was browsing the internet searching about Nix OS sudo privileges and typed this domain mistakenly sudonix.com lol, and found this forum.
I am impressed by the fact that how this platform takes privacy so seriously, there were proper beginner-friendly dialogs for explanations.
About meI am a linux / foss guy, I know basic server management, but still, I’m a beginner, I also know frontend stuff html, css currently learning javascript then will move forward to backend stuff.
I’ve only 1 year of experience, I’ve created 2 production websites, and 2 for fun and self-hosting some awesome open-source tools.
Hopefully, this forum will help me out in the future with my queries, I like the UI, it’s NodeBB I guess, also there are no ads.
I also wanted to bring the admin’s attention to this one, this email-confirmation text in a dark twitter theme looks inconsistent.

Hope one day NodeBB will be some where 🙂

This is a feature from wikis, which are designed to increase internal links.
You know how many notetaking apps use ‘[[’ with a pop-up where you can find existing notes? Then enter selects one, and it generates the markdown link. This is extremely handy, example:

Is there anything like this for nodebb?
Here’s an interesting one. I have my views on this, but thought I’d ask everyone else. Windows 11 has come on in leaps and bounds over the years, and (unless you’re a hardcore Windows XP fanatic, and if you are, we need a serious security discussion) is probably by far the best build of Windows yet. However, many “purists” out there may not agree. For example, I have a strong preference and allegiance to Linux (I’m a KDE Neon user), but tend to use Windows 11 in the office, and when working from home, I have a dual boot machine I use for work - mostly because of the integration with products and services the firm I work for uses.
However, on the other side are MAC enthusiasts and users who prefer this platform because of the flexibility it offers - not to mention the usability. So, my question here, is what system do you tend to prefer, and why ? Is it because of familiarity / what you are comfortable with, or do you have other reasons?
This isn’t designed to start an OS war - it’s more aligned to understanding preferences, and ultimately, to understand how Sudonix (as a pro bono project) can assist you in future.
Thanks
Let’s hope there’s an element of truth in this 😁 From my perspective, I won’t lose any sleep

I’m looking at the task manager on firefox and nodebb forum takes a lot of CPU even at rest. I can imagine this is because it uses websockets. Do you have a similar experience? This is on linux, with a beefy CPU and GPU. It triggers the fans. I’ve noticed this with other similar apps (I suspect websocket heavy) like circle.so.
If this is an inevitable consequence of ‘modern web’, I guess we’d all have to move to ARM or get used to spinning fans in the background.
Is my experience an outlier?
Or course there is no right answer to this question, it depends on the creators needs and preferences mainly as to which software is chosen, and costs of course 😉 some packages can cost an arm and a leg literally 💰 .
This got me thinking, I’m running NodeBB just like this platform, but if you had unlimited money to throw at a project, would you still chose what you run now?
🤔🤔🤔🤔
idk the reason but the transaction got declined.
it’s the most secure bank in our country even we can’t take our own money out 😂
There doesn’t seem to be loads of NodeBB templates available, I wonder if you’d ever consider making a premium template like Sudonix has and making it available for sale?
I know you help people with changes that they require but I was just thinking as like a premium theme out of the box sort of thing.
