Glossary of terms

Announcements
  • Seeing as Iā€™m a veteran of the IT industry, I use a LOT of acronyms, terms, abbreviations etc when I write content for others in order to provide assistance. I realised that this could well become overwhelming for some users whilst they trawl Google looking for what those abbreviations etc mean.

    Well, not any more šŸ™‚

You can now hover over keywords, abbreviations, acronyms, and more, and itā€™ll give you an idea of what that term actually means or refers toā€¦

    Some examples below

Hopefully, this prevents the head scratching, and having to spend time looking up terms I use šŸ˜†

    Great feature mate šŸ˜

  • @jac Thanks

  • This feature is being expanded upon - hopefully, there will be quite a library of terms that others may or will find useful

Iā€™m sure this will be helpful šŸ˜.

  • Just a small update here. We now have 1500+ keywords enabled šŸ™‚

  • Meh, this plugin is much ado ā€˜bout nothinā€™ from my perspective. Tossā€™s up too many off/erroneous glossary terms. Yeah, they may be correct. But the regexā€™s are matching greedily and flagginā€™ lots of other words that merely contain the respective target sequence.

But that is just me. By all means please do continue to enjoy if it floats your boat. ā›µ

  • @gotwf The REGEX match should not be greedy - for example, I have it configured so that it only executes on case-sensitive. Admittedly, it may be flagging other words, and may not be perfect, but itā€™s a WIP presently and beneficial to those joining who may not be familiar with the abbreviations or acronyms I frequently use.

@phenomlab of course, to be recognised is fantastic.

Sadly, no. Web crawlers and scrapers are often JS based and read text only, so styles donā€™t have any bearing.

Iā€™ve read mixed things about this, but no that does make sense, it was something I read a many years back when using Wordpress.

Iā€™ve noticed that Iā€™m the only one subscribed to the push notifications on this site. If you were using NTFY previously, and have noticed that youā€™ve not had any alerts for a while, itā€™s because this feature has been disabled.

Youā€™ll now need to use the push notification to replace NTFY as mentioned in the first post.

@Madchatthew True. I think this is the reason as to why most Open Source projects are abandoned because they are not sustainable in the long-term.

Just coming back to this thread for review (as I often do), and it looks like Webdock have increased their available offerings - some are extremely powerful, yet very competitive from the pricing perspective.

    image.png

10 CPU cores, plus 20Gb RAM? Well worth a look (and the asking price) - thereā€™s also a fixed IP which is hugely beneficial.

Clearly, this is well beyond what most people will want to spend - itā€™s more of an example (but interestingly, Sudonix runs on something not too different from the above).

However, not all that glitters is gold šŸ˜• - just have a walk through the benchmark report I found below and youā€™ll see a huge difference between Heztner and Webdock

    https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/compare/hetzner_vs_webdock

That being said, the amount of HTTP requests that Webdock handles in relation to Hetzner is superior - @DownPW you might want to have a look at this - thereā€™s a free 24 hour trialā€¦ šŸ™‚
