Theme changes

Announcements
  • Iā€™ve recently revamped the theme to automatically detect those who prefer dark mode over light. Based on this, anyone viewing this forum - either as a user, or as a guest, and has defined dark mode at operating system level, will receive the dark theme by default - no more having to select this (although the ability to toggle between light and dark still exists) when you first enter the site.

To me, it makes much more sense to respect the settings visitors prefer rather than force a particular theme on them by default.

Night owl ? No problem. Light lover ? No problem šŸ‘

  • Added more visual enhancements - see if you can spot them ! šŸ™‚

  • Even more eye candy added šŸ’“

See if you can spot it (note, you may have to reload your browser window to see it). Iā€™ll give you a hint - most of the changes are visible in dark mode šŸ™‚

  • Plenty more subtle changes, and some ā€œunder the hoodā€ stuff to further enhance the experience. Just because you canā€™t see it, that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not there šŸ‘

  • Frequent visitor here may well have noticed several changes. Iā€™m not going to list them all šŸ˜ƒ but do let me know if you experience any issues.

  • Thereā€™s still some very minor bugs in the two themes (light and dark) but these will be resolved in the coming days. Some are specific to firefox, and well require special attention, but will still be resolved nonetheless.

Iā€™ve noticed that Iā€™m the only one subscribed to the push notifications on this site. If you were using NTFY previously, and have noticed that youā€™ve not had any alerts for a while, itā€™s because this feature has been disabled.

Youā€™ll now need to use the push notification to replace NTFY as mentioned in the first post.

I relented somewhat here and added another swatch - one I missed, which was previous called ā€œblackoutā€. This specific one has been adapted to work on the new theming engine, but the others have been reclassified, and renamed to suit.

As a result, the theme you might have had will probably be reflecting something else, so you (might) need to change your themes accordingly. The changes are as follows

    Light -> No Change
Cloudy -> Is now the old ā€œDimā€
Dim -> Is now the old ā€œDarkā€
Dark -> Now a new theme based on the revamped ā€œBlackoutā€

I thought Iā€™d better come by here with an update so everyone knows that the Swatch project isnā€™t abandoned, or has simply ā€œgone coldā€. In fact, quite the opposite.

Iā€™ve setup a dev instance on my home network which Iā€™m currently developing against. Iā€™ll put some screenshots up soon, but the Swatch code is currently enjoying a rewrite. The great news is that youā€™ll get ten times the flexibility you have now meaning greater support for light themes, although the downside is that there isnā€™t that much backwards compatibility meaning some of my own themes even need to be completely redesigned.

However, this isnā€™t the end of the world. Once youā€™re familiar with the classes, it really doesnā€™t take long at all to create your own themes.

    More to follow.

Iā€™ll be putting together a video of what the revamped theme will look like very soon - just got some small issues to iron out, and code cleanup beforehandā€¦

Just coming back to this thread for review (as I often do), and it looks like Webdock have increased their available offerings - some are extremely powerful, yet very competitive from the pricing perspective.

    image.png

10 CPU cores, plus 20Gb RAM? Well worth a look (and the asking price) - thereā€™s also a fixed IP which is hugely beneficial.

Clearly, this is well beyond what most people will want to spend - itā€™s more of an example (but interestingly, Sudonix runs on something not too different from the above).

However, not all that glitters is gold šŸ˜• - just have a walk through the benchmark report I found below and youā€™ll see a huge difference between Heztner and Webdock

    https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/compare/hetzner_vs_webdock

That being said, the amount of HTTP requests that Webdock handles in relation to Hetzner is superior - @DownPW you might want to have a look at this - thereā€™s a free 24 hour trialā€¦ šŸ™‚
