Flarum - WordPress Journey
-
During the time we were moving out from flarum, our team was frustrated, learning something new , WordPress was really new to us. But with the help of @phenomlab @Hari and @MadWay there convincing thoughts we finally managed to come make Sopriza Community live back again.
Phenomlab has been helpful with providing the essential security, hardly to believe WordPress is even better!
-
@Sala umm … I’d like to check out the site, but…
-
@phenomlab please clear cache and re-retry.
-
@Sala working now. No need to clear cache. Looks like you’re using AnsPress on this site (I could be wrong) - this plugin is pretty much abandoned and effectively unsupported. It also only had one developer (a guy named Ruhal Ayran from memory) and he’s not exactly responsive when it comes to issues.
-
-
@phenomlab thanks for reporting back. I had installed wp optimize and wp rocket, while posting, i had deleted one of them because they couldn’t work together.
Yes i remember you told me about the anapress, but it came with the theme. (Icons header’s e.t.c)
So i decided to keep it until I find a good coder. Otherwise am happy with so far how its performing. For example madway created this topic and it took 2hrs to get published at top, isn’t that impressive?
http://www.bing.com/search?q=Im+number+uno+madway.net
Previous our topics were not indexing on bing, now almost all the show up
-
@Sala the site looks really good, I must say. It’s also very responsive. And, I can definitely align with your experience of SEO on Flarum. As an ex user of that platform, I landed up with exactly the same issues in the sense that no posts etc were being indexed.
Since moving to NodeBB, I’ve not had any issues at all. In fact, with almost zero effort on my part, this site is being indexed frequently and it takes literally just a few hours before posts appear in Google’s search results.
I think a lot of people are being drawn in by Flarum only to realise after significant investment that it has a number of pitfalls and insurmountable issues. One such show stopper for me was the complete lack of GDPR functionality.
Since moving out of the Flarum ecosystem, I haven’t looked back.
-
@phenomlab yes it’s utterly laughable now, and one thing that had made me to join flarum was because of people like you. The community appeared to have experts you know by considering the age, but when you left, many questions started to come up, and when Billy site changed to something else, i knew for non expert like me, theres something wrong.
If again we join any forum, it’s better we raise awareness like the way you did for Gdpr, the way the only way our eyes were opened
-
@Sala Interesting. What happened to Billy? Doesn’t seem like he’s posted since early October - did he leave ?
-
@phenomlab you know he was skilled, had a couple of extensions, remember the rss story and bbcode extensions? But he just quit flarum. Almost every person that left flarum was my Friend. I will invite him here to sudonix
-
Im not using any CDN
Here is my results
Any suggestions in reducing TTFB in WordPress? To be similar like cache everything from cloudflare…
-
@Sala caching everything at Cloudflare will cause you serious issues - particularly anything session related such as logins, checkouts etc.
I note you are using wp-rocket - you should ensure that you are using the recommend Cloudflare settings for this plugin, and you should also bypass the cache in Cloudflare for anything relating to session information, for example, URLs matching
/login
,/register
,/checkout
etc.Without these exceptions to caching, you’ll have issues with user sessions meaning unexpected and undesired behaviour.
The simple message here is that caching everything is more hassle and pain than it is worth.
-
@phenomlab thank you! no need to worry, because i dont use CDN.
How to reduce the 1.5 to at least 1.2 is killing me. Another way maybe i should wait a couple of days and test again
-
@Sala ok, but are you using Cloudflare ?
-
@phenomlab no, am not using any third party dns, and already it seem to be working even better.
-
@Sala ok, can you provide a waterfall from the site (you can get this from GTMetrix) that provides a detailed breakdown of your site? TTFB is typically affected by multiple factors, so it would be interesting to get an idea of what is causing this.
-
@phenomlab hi, because am on mobile phone here is my TTFB report, might expire ( https://gtmetrix.com/reports/sopriza.com/cGAYXjkZ/ )
-
@Sala Your
ttfb
actually isn’t that high at all - see belowhttps://www.bytecheck.com/results?resource=https%3A%2F%2Fsopriza.com%2F
Where are you testing from, and where is the server based? Both of these will have quite an impact on
ttfb
and overall performance. For example, tested from London
-
@phenomlab Sir, now i am understanding that i need to stop worrying about it, its all good. It varies in different location.
Its my first time also to discover bytecheck , youre a good teacher, thanks!

@Sala seems Billy is still active

@phenomlab his just talking them for a ride, that what flarum does. No one actually says they moved. They can waste your if not too careful. Billy
