Goodbye OnePlus, hello Samsung

@Panda yes, that’s true. They are the only network to avoid the roaming fees, but i can’t see how they will keep it that way forever.
@phenomlab o2 bills seem (for one reason or another) to be high. If they stopped the inclusive roaming many wouldn’t stay with them.
If I may ask, which is your preferred operator?
EE were ok but since Xmas they had a change in their roaming add ons, and now its £2.50 a day!
That change came in with short notice. Its no good if you travel out of UK a lot! -

Now AT&T (our current provider) is offering a free S25 Ultra with trade in. I don’t think I can refuse this offer. Doh, I am weak weak weak! It’s like putting beer in front of Homer Simpson.

So I caved on the Samsung deal. At least for this one and I will now be planning on probably going with the Nothing phone once these new ones will be end of life. I am hoping they will last at least 5 years or longer.

@Madchatthew I got something similar from Vodafone. As tempting as the early upgrade is, it’s also VERY expensive. I will abstain.

@phenomlab Yeah the new phone isn’t cheap. My phone was a S23 Ultra and it isn’t costing me anything to trade up so it is free for me. My wife has an S22 Ultra so it costs a little bit for her, but they are still giving a $1000 credit for it. We could have just kept them until end of life and then went with the nothing phone or something similiar. What can I say, I am a sucker for Samsung Galaxy phones. Let the shaming being hahaha

So the new phones arrived yesterday. I got them setup which was a breeze. I was actually impressed. The only thing that pissed me off about it was that after the transfer from the old phone to the new phone, is that all of the saved data from the games I play wasn’t transferred over. Some of them have cloud storage built into the game, but a couple of the games I play don’t have that and I was really far into the game. Well, that data did not copy over and wouldn’t. So I guess I am done playing those games, because I’m not starting over. So that was the only thing that didn’t work.
Otherwise the phone seems to be working great. It doesn’t have the rounded edges like the old one, which I actually like better. It isn’t quite as tall as the old one, but it seems like there is more screen area. It runs very smooth as well and fast. I haven’t gotten into the AI part of it yet, so once I start playing with that and seeing what it’s capabilities are and if it is actually helpful, I will let you know.

@Madchatthew Good summary. Pity about the game though. You’d have thought they would have copied over.

@phenomlab Yeah I agree. Then I went to go play it and all the progress is gone. Not sure why all of that data wouldn’t have transferred over. I told it to transfer all as well. So a little deceiving there, cause it actually doesn’t do all. I was quite disappointed.

@Madchatthew what did you use to transfer?

@phenomlab I used the cable to connect the two phones and used smart switch to do the transfer

@Madchatthew crazy it doesn’t work as it should. I see no real reason as to why it didn’t copy over unless the storage was perhaps encrypted?

@phenomlab that is possible but I never specifically told it to be encyrpted, but maybe through the apps themselves? I thought it was really weird that it didn’t copy the entirety of the apps over.

@Madchatthew it’s the only explanation I have aside from configuration.

@phenomlab yeah and that makes sense. I wish I would have noticed it before i wiped the old phone and packaged it up to send back. Then I could have tried a different method for transferring the data. Oh well, ya live and ya learn I guess
