Be all that as it may, curious if anyone members here have tested Surfshark, and, if so, what is your impression?
I think @JAC has recently signed up. I’m not being swayed from NordVPN presently as it’s never let me down or dropped below what I’d expect. Support is top notch also.
@phenomlab Thx. I could live w/the speed situation. The random disconnects are a bit more disconcerting. Maybe I’ll standby for another day or two, pending @JAC reports.
@gotwf yes, I think the disconnects would be enough to put me off - particularly as when you lose connection, the default is to black hole the actual connection as unprotected meaning until the link is established again, you have nothing at all unless you kill the application itself (or disable that specific function)
@phenomlab Yep. Seems @JAC is/was mostly testing speed? I wonder if location may affect my disconnects? Level 3 shite? But I suspect Surfshark as I am not too many hops from Seattle and seems suspicious that it would be backbone issue.
Just dip sticking other experiences before “rushing” to conclusions. Thx for checking it out and reporting back.
@gotwf The real issue with layer 3 is that when it comes to backbone, factoring in protocols such as OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) have a maximum of 16 hops before they simply die. What you see with the disconnects is likely reconvergence where the route is recalculated then re-established.
Effectively, a self healing network, but with poor performance for the end user. So they have 99% uptimes to satisfy their SLA, whilst you get the disconnects.

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now. It’s my first VPN so I didn’t really know what to expect, but I must say I’ve not had it disconnect but I have had it a few times where I’ve had to connect to a different server as it’s been too slow etc for what I need.
I’m not looking for a refund and will keep Surfshark for my family for general browsing probably but I am on the lookout for a different VPN that is able to cope with streaming better.
@jac Thanks. Good update. This is why I chose to stick with NordVPN

How has Nord been mate?
I know you don’t do streaming but generally how has it been?

If it comes to it I can always change to Nord.

Although I’ll have to try get my money back under the 30 day money back guarantee and then pick the right one this time.
@jac Yep - enough said, I think

Tempted to make the switch, maybe keep both.
@jac The mobile experience was recently updated and is rock solid.
@jac That’s not expensive in my view.
Seems a lot more expensive. I’m going to wait a few days and weigh up the options / hope there’s a slightly better deal that crops up .
I’ll have to try get my money back with SurfShark first, either that or use both for now and compare and then see which is better.

Compared to Surf shark it is, although maybe you get what you pay for I’m not sure.
