@Madchatthew I’d always post for the reasons I stated above. It’s useful information and could save someone else the headache.

I’m looking for a few things Mark…
To do a football site where fans of every club are able to write posts (for example aspiring journalists etc).
And as for the Stockport forum I think I need a new approach to this where I evolve it into a news type site with the forum on a sub domain or sub directory.
Maybe a viral type of site where fans can get involved maybe something based on this and wasn’t sure whether to do this on a separate domain.
What’s the best way to approach this? Without telling me where to go . As always I’d be more than happy to stamp the Phenomlab or Sudonix on anything due to the incredible amount of work put it always.
Thanks as always!

@jac All of this is possible, but you are right - it’s a huge amount of work - but not insurmountable. Are you able to put together a project plan of sorts - in other words, what you want placed where etc ?
Once we have a basic design strategy in place, we can discuss the structural changes. You can leverage your existing server for this, so no real expense on your side apart from any theme or plugin you choose to purchase for WordPress of course.

Thanks Mark,
I wish to either move the forum to a different domain something like this or this, although then I would have a domain spare with no use.
That sounds great, how many domains can you run on one server mate?
I plan to create a site that fans can either write content on (something I used to do) and then have sections for lets say Dagenham Links > Dagenham Blogs > Dagenham Podcasts etc so basically all Dagenham news under one section, of course this would be on a separate domain. I mention something like this in a different thread, so it is something I’ve thought about for a while.
So if not fans writing content then maybe a site for imported news for every club and youtube videos imported along with podcasts or all this into one site with fans writing too!
Many thanks

@jac you shouldn’t use different domains in the root sense. Get a domain you want to use, then create subdomains within that structure so, for example, forum.stockportcounty.fans for the forums (obviously), leave the root domain for the WordPress site, then use other subdomains depending on their content, for example, news.stockportcounty.fans etc.
Keep the same domain for SEO purposes. There’s no limit to how many domains you can have on VirtualMin, although disk space, processor and memory obviously play a part in overall performance.

Thanks for the advice mate, I was just thinking of a domain change to something shorter like or this or.

I’d love to add this to the site too because it’s something no other site has and I think it could become a popular feature and bring people back especially if there’s a prize involved! Prediction plugin

@jac the domain of countyfans.com seems to be for sale - currently $198, but I’m guessing the price will go up once you show an interest

Yes mate, scrap that one. I used to own it and didn’t renew it. .

@jac I’ve done that before - and typically regretted it. Getting a decent domain name these days is increasingly difficult. Especially one that is easy to remember, and pronounce.

Absolutely Mark, you’re right it’s becoming a big struggle. That’s why I was very happy to secure this but it’s generally too long having thought about it etc. People like something that’s easy to remember like you say and something that rolls off the tongue easily.

@jac the “killer” domain name is extremely hard to come by these days. Generally, my advice is for something that’s easy to pronounce, no longer than 15 characters (ideally much less, and not including the domain suffix). Getting something easy to remember is the hard part.
Don’t make the mistake of dropping letters out of a word in an effort to make it look and sound “trendy” either. This just makes it actually much harder to find.

I’d agree with that mate.
It’s a tough one because there’s plenty of teams with ‘County’ in the name but that’s what we’re known as to the fans that will be using the product so it’s important to finally get it right and like you say something short enough.
This is the one that’s cropping up as short and sweet but you know .

@jac Well, the below domains are also available
countycrazy.com countynuts.com
Food for thought
I need something that sounds good enough to get people’s attention just off the name.
Most football sites have mad, news, fans or something along them lines that I know of.
so for example it could be this , this or the shortest one yet
