This is the more sinister side of AI that I alluded to in the original article I wrote. The last video was of course made up, but represented a very real risk - even back then.
This is now being realized in varying formats - one in particular from a young girl (or so the mother was lead to believe) who “left a tearful message” saying she’d been kidnapped and there was a ransom for her safe return. This in fact turned out to be fake with the daughter (thankfully) safe and well, but it just proves the extensive nature of AI in terms of voice sampling for example, and how dangerous this technology will be if in the wrong hands.

@phenomlab this is not surprising, given that we put a lot of emphasis on equality (social or justice), freedom, inclusivity etc. in “ideal” life… Additionally, for quite some time (at least since Kant) we are sure that science is enough to explain our daily life, so we do not need religion (or old traditions) in society, especially to govern anything.

Evidently, this AI will be used to boost its Alexa voice assistant’s conversational powers.
Anyone else “slightly concerned” (to say the least) by the privacy aspect here? The Alexa devices aren’t exactly known for respecting privacy and this is going to make an already problematic issue much worse.
For those who wonder what I’m referring to here, it’s the fact that Alexa devices are well known to be constantly “listening” and in my view, AI would take that to a whole new level.

I totally agree. The “Big data” can be utilized more deeply with AI, but it will be in more violation of privacy.
In any case, I am against using Google Assistant or Alexa just for this very purpose.

Let’s wait and see in 10-15 years when the “tablet” kids and “smartphone” kids are more active in politics…
I have seen this on the news before… for “normal” (and I believe “better”) development of their kids, Silicon Valley tech workers are sending their little kids to schools where technology is forbidden. So, they can use their hands and play with the soil.

You know what, I’d fully support this notion. When my daughter was at school, they had interactive white boards, but everything else was from books and physical teaching. if you look at the kids now, it’s all technology, and whilst this does indeed prepare them for a world where technology dominates, it means they lack the basic skills that we (well, I…) had as kids where you were taught practical things like how to wire up a plug (in the UK, everything comes with a plug now because there were so many accidents because of incorrect wiring), repair something that is broken etc. - now, it’s much simpler to send it to landfill rather than repair it.
The kids of today have everything and nothing in my view. If the internet as we know it completely crashed out for a week (something that will likely never happen of course) and they couldn’t use social media apps etc., then how would they cope? The university of life tends to teach at a much slower rate, and without those fundamental basic skills, how would they survive?
Somehow, I knew it wouldn’t be long before AI was was being used extensively to produce indecent images of children. I find this sickening to the core.
The transport medium for this is WhatsApp, which, given it’s encryption, is a cause for significant alarm in the sense that tracking the perpetrators of these images is almost impossible. According to the article
