Hi Mark,
I have a 1gbps powerline adapter that I usually use with the laptop upstairs (as I previously didn’t get good speeds) I have great speeds to the Virgin hub, but very poor speeds when ethernet is connected, and without the VPN too!
With ethernet disabled and wifi enabled I get much greater speeds, just like I am now seeing on the Nvidia Shield box.
Is it time to ditch these?
I have the new hub 4 with 1gbps speeds to the box and 1 wifi pod which appears to be helping massively.
Speed upstairs to the laptop via wifi is…
… which I’m very happy with, I know it varies from device to device but considering I was once getting only 19mbps up here in the top room I’m very happy with the results, but slightly concerned as to why speeds are so slow via ethernet.

@JAC is the speed consistent across these devices completed to your phone in the same location ? What speeds do you get from the laptop on wireless and on wired ?

Speeds can vary as we know. So I’m currently getting around 350mbps to the mobile phone, something which is probably at its limit so I can’t complain with that.
It appeared to be on the laptop in the top room where I had the issues, and was getting sometimes 13mbps through wireless and even less with ethernet plugged in.
I have just got the second wifi pod through the door so I’ll test it when I can mate to see if it’s any better

@JAC wired connections should always be faster than wifi, but there are some variations to this. Are you sure that the Power line adapters you are using are in fact 1gbps ? From recollection, they aren’t, but I could well be wrong here.

- Click Status in the left panel.
- In the right window, click View your network properties link under Change your network settings.
- Under Properties, find the network adapter, the Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and find the speed next to Link speed (Receive/Transmit).
Send a screenshot of what you see. It would look something like this

@JAC ok, so not an issue with the port speed or duplex settings. Have you tried updating the device driver to see if that makes a difference ? Also, a long shot, but could be caused by antivirus software.
You can test this by disabling the antivirus temporarily to see if that makes any difference to the speed (although honestly, if this were the case, I’d expect similar degradation on the wifi adapter also)

Yet to try this but a good test too would be to use the Power line adapter that allows 100mbps max through it and see if that yields any different results.

@JAC Well, no, not really. If you do that, you’ll never get above 100Mbps on a 1Gbps line as they are capped at 100Mbps

Absolutely mate, I know what you’re saying, I was purely going to test to see if it came out above the 12/13mbps I reported on Sunday.
I’m just looking to test that to see if it’s the 1Gb power line adapter that is the issue, which I’ll do in the next hour

If you have gigabit hub you should only connect all gigabit connections to stay gigabit mode, in case if you connect a 10mb connection the hub will siwtch to 10mbps mode instead of 1000
In some cases you should bind ports on router to convert all ports into gigabit
I’m not sure about you found solution or not. I make sure these things when i deal with gigabit eth cables.

The “consumer” switches (such as NetGear for example) will have nowhere near this, and therefore, the overall speed of the port will be impacted by the amount of devices you have running simultaneously.

Thanks for the update. I have just connected via the other powerline adapter and the reading shows 34.7mbps.

. Sent off for second pod.Tried in kitchen earlier where we have a pod plugged in in the hallway so not far from the kitchen, I was getting over 250mbps last week but it was around 130 this morning, something’s not right
