  • @Hari thanks for the scrool indicator codepen i was looking for that one 😄
I couldn’t find it I will add this on posts for sure.

edit: 😪 scroll not realtime it is calculating coordinates when you stop scrolling. sadge…

it is simple Wordpress theme I am cutting lots of features because we don’t need it and ofc you can add plugins later.

    here is the forum https://atarikafa.com/toplulukk/
( it will move here soon https://atarikafa.com/topluluk/ )

for the permalink you can make any permalink you want because it is main posts and categories and everything will work no SEO problem. for my case only users u/user links will change to members/user I will just make a 301 on htacsess for this.

I tried wpdisqus and similar ones but I wanted to focus on theme design first. i am making the theme simple so it supports any plugin. i may even upload this to wp.org if I make the time for it 😄

only ajax posting/topic starting feature missing
but here is the first commit for you 😉

@sinanisler one quick question, in buddy press all the replies are WordPress comments or individual posts?

@Hari I don’t think the speed issues are because of the theme, but would need to see the code to be sure. There’s likely to be several things we can do to improve performance.

However, the site is extremely slow

@phenomlab sure, this theme was developed by freshers, making a new theme using the code of this theme would be a nice idea.

maybe its loading slowly because they hardcoded the existing plugins or added more rules in the core to functions.php

either we can speed this theme or we can take code from this theme to the SiForum

do you want the entire backup or just the wp-admin logins to look into this?

@Hari if the site isn’t live yet, just an admin login is sufficient.

@Hari my theme can work without buddypress. every post is a post and replies are comments.

your theme crazy good btw 😂😂

  • @Hari if the site isn’t live yet, just an admin login is sufficient.

@phenomlab it is live, i will change the same admin2 user to admin role

@sinanisler that is a good news, wpdiscuz has these features like live commenting, reputation reward system and front end moderation like flarum. These are premium plugins are integrating into them few plugins are modified we should not update or redistribute them.

Wpdiscuz is free and all add-ons are premium.

Did you check the indicator is it working as expected?

@Hari let me know when the admin role is available, and the URL of its not the default WordPress one.

One thing that’s worth noting here is that Flarum has trademarks and intellectual property, and with the theme you have looking almost like a replica, this may cause issues with copyright infringement.

@phenomlab sure i will share ASAP

thanks for mentioning about the TM and IPs i thought it is open-source 😄

nor i am interested to sell/distributing wordpress thems and i am not going to WordPress.

i was inspired by this thread
https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-like-flarum/ i have a version of this too but it’s an old version of flarum.

i have read a few arguments on this (TM and IPs) on flarum discuss but i don’t want to bring that to here. siForum will not conflict with the laws.

if flarum is talking about trademarks they are only registered in Sweden or Finland … but not in India.

trademarks and IPs are first come first serve basis. whoever requests they will get TM.

i am not leaving flarum and not going to make this public. let’s call it a fun/home project. i do respect their efforts and work and i will continue to be like that.

    https://kjellr.com/2022/01/28/building-twitter-with-wordpress-5-9/

for example, kjellr did something similar and he won’t be getting sued by Twitter 😄

@Hari all fine with me. Was just pointing it out. Most trademarks incidentally are just in the country where they are issued as you’ve pointed out (you’d need to won’t in each country you want it registered). I just know that Flarum in the past has come down quite hard on those who have directly copied their layout or used their logo without permission, so this is likely covered under intellectual property, which can be almost global (90 plus countries) to my knowledge if you leverage the Madrid Protocol - although I don’t think that extends to India. The logo of course is fine as you are not using it, but the layout is almost identical. I’m not sure that their trademark extend to the site design, but it might be worth checking.

I completely understand why you want it to look like Flarum because of the users being familiar with that layout and it makes absolute sense not to deviate to much away from what they are accustomed to - just be careful.

    Madrid Protocol

I am not going to use this theme or distribute it. it is an abandoned project (when there was no dev available to build flarum extensions for us we had to work on an alternative WordPress theme - features like guest posting, SEO changes are still big issues with flarum)

I am aware of this Madrid Protocol. they have opted for rights in their country only. (it was an a individual request exclusively valid for their own country)

usually site design will not have TM or IP (as far i am aware of)

    exactly

and i am not going to use this replica 🙂 if we have to go for WordPress or react we will opt for commento.io or something else.

i promise this will not go into the web. i will continue to love flarum 😄

@Hari sounds good. Personally, I can’t use Flarum because of its fundamental lack of GDPR controls and the fact that they are using implied consent for everything.

  • //update 🔫

still, there is a lot to do, what he has done is so far good enough for a forum. it’s swift fast. 🥳

@sinanisler I love GPL too. The logo and brand is protected by a trademark, but as you mentioned, the look and colour scheme isn’t.

Can’t say I’m a fan of the layout, which is why I always changed it 😁

@Panda said in WP / Woocommerce Mystery: Just back to my other question, have you ever used Shopify? It insists on a templating language to use any custom js. Not personally as never had any need, however, I do know that it uses Liquid for JS templating. It’s written in Ruby and is used to generate dynamic content on shop fronts. There’s zero reason as to why it wouldn’t work with data supplied by 3rd party API’s, although WordPress code won’t natively work for obvious reasons, and as such, this code would need to be re-written. The JS part will likely work with minor modification, but not the PHP file in it’s current form.

Quick update - I decided to do the redirect from sudonix.com to sudonix.org using Cloudflare’s Edge Network as it’s much more efficient than having to send the request to this server for it to simply then bounce back.

@hari the cache level for woocommerce should always be bypass. Any caching of woocommerce will cause you serious issues and will result in the checkout process not functioning correctly. This does mean that the overall experience will be slower (depending on geographic location) although CF is known to cause significant issues hence the need to bypass. If you want to cache as much as possible, then set rules to bypass caching on the cart and account pages etc.

@phenomlab said in Hardening WordPress - Reducing the attack vector: @jac Microsoft’s and Google’s Authenticator both support TOTP - essentially, a time based system that changes every 30 seconds. The main principle here is that the device itself carrying the One Time Passcode only needs to be in sync with the source server in terms of time, and can be completely offline with no internet access. Provided the time matches on both devices, the One Time Passcode will be accepted. Applications such as Microsoft Authenticator and Authy also support push notification meaning you just choose either yes or no on your device when prompted, and then that response is sent back to the origin which then determines if access is granted or not. One of the best looking password less authentication models was CLEF - sadly, this product died out due to a lack of funding (if I recall correctly) although some open source implementations of this have appeared quite recently. Essentially, both products will achieve the same goal. TOTP is an industry standard, and widely accepted across the board. Not all services offer push confirmation. Many thanks for the detailed reply mate. There’s some great advice in there that will help me secure my accounts.
