A lot of conflicting views on the matter. Some say it is slow others say itโs great. Maybe it just comes down to personal preference.

I expect that this depends on where you are in the world, and which node you connect to. Again, as you say, itโs going to be aligned to personal experience. One manโs junk is another manโs gold.

Of course. Definitely thinking of signing up anytime nowโฆ

Wasโฆ but it seems to have gone up overall by ยฃ4-5 through the year.
@jac Yes, I think the deal was for a limited time only (SurfShark)
@phenomlab Yep. I think I noted above that that deal was only thru 9/20. New โdealโ though:
Just not quite THE deal.
fwiw; I am becoming less than keen on them. Only minimal testing as of yet as I have been busy w/other things. Maybe okay for general browsing but kind of sucky on streaming and/or multiple tabs/containers. At least on desktop FF browser app. Also, I have yet to grok where one can choose various protocols, e.g. wireguard. Maybe easily resolved by a reach out to support but โฆ busy with other stuff as of late so take the above with a dose of salt. Gotta run

For what itโs worth Iโve just signed up for 2 years. Interestingly I wonder if I do indeed appear to have a different IP? Can you confirm this Mark?
@jac Thatโs correct. Youโre sitting behind their proxy services which is how all VPN providers work.
Fully expected
@gotwf Yes, in my testing (Iโm a little late posting here - sorry) I found that the speed was staggeringly decreased when using the proxy services. For example, I have 380mbps internet at home, and when connected to the VPN, I was only getting around one third of that.
I guess this is in line with @gotwf findings. For browsing in general itโs probably fine, but for streaming is probably a different story altogether.

will try test all this, I mainly want it for privacy reasons and probably mostly browsing.

Itโs my first VPN, Iโm happy to possibly take a hit

How can I test speeds?
@jac try speedtest.net
