@phenomlab That is an amazing page! Thanks for sharing that. Corentin did a great job with it.

maybe next time a firestick may be the better option.
Same speeds of 100mbps.

These would do it too wouldn’t they?
-
@JAC yes, they would. However, 10/100 is quite an old standard these days. In most cases, the minimum is 100mbps or better at 1000mbps.

Thanks mate. I’ll probably go for the other ones above that I posted a few days ago .

@JAC these will work if you’re looking to save money, but don’t expect fantastic network performance from them…

Absolutely not mate, no. These seem the better deal

@JAC yes, those look absolutely fine.

Router: Virgin Hub (same as yours I think mate).
Powerline Adapter from hub to top room (as you know from chat above).
Virgin Signal not much use around the house, we did have Boosters but they weren’t much use in all honesty.
If I want to put a TV in another room or two what are the implications of doing this with a firestick or something connected to each?
Would that require a new hub? more power line adapters? or is it a case of the more power line adapters the slower it will be anyway?
-
@JAC Hi - see below

Pretty much none in terms of performance - provided the stick can see the internet, this is all that is required

The only real restriction here is that the Virgin Hub has 4 network ports . Each powerline adapter will of course require a port, so once you have exhausted the available ports, you can’t add any more*
*it’s entirely possible to add a network splitter or switch to increase the ports, but I would not recommend this.

I’d most likely only add 1 more adapter for now, would this effect the internet speeds etc if two powerline adapters are being used at the same time?
-
@JAC Depends on the bandwidth available obviously, but unlikely to cause any significant impact.

We are on the 256mps package matey.
Correct me if I’m wrong but for example the Shield upstairs is connected via Ethernet taking 100mpbs, so if another one is connected then that’s 200mpbs relatively, I know I’ll have this wrong but the theory is there
-
@JAC In “theory”, yes - but in practice, no. Streaming typically takes much less bandwidth - see below

Brilliant Mark, thank you very much for that
-
@JAC I think it’s time to replace the Virgin Hub soon for something different.
The amount of times it drops out is unbelievable.
-
@JAC From recollection, you have the newer Virgin Hub. There isn’t anything else.

It is indeed mate yes. Unless you upgrade to their latest deal and then I think you get a new one.
What about buying a hub online? Would that resolve the issue?

No, I don’t think so. I very much doubt it’s the hub. If you are experiencing disconnects, it would be beneficial to understand if this is the Wifi or the internet connection itself.
