Anyone using Ghost ?

[phenomlab]

@jac Only drawbacks I would note are below

• Not as “simple” as WordPress in the sense of “a plugin for everything”
• No “native” comment support (you’d need to use an external service) - not an issue for me, as I use NodeBB

The benefits hugely outweigh the negatives

nice to see the continuation of the Sudonix theme

Exactly. A lot of time and effort spent there

Absolutely it does seem that way of ‘a little is more than enough’ it’s the stance they are going for.

Maybe I guess people don’t want to be bombarded with adding plugin after plugin, but if you’re like me and it’s all you’ve ever known of until now then it’s certainly what you’re going to keep going back to every time.

The key issue or way of thinking for people who are looking to use Ghost (and I don’t know a lot about it but it’s the way I’d look at it) - can I get what I want from it, will it be useful as let’s say a football website, probably not because that would mostly likely require plugins, but will it be useful as a blog tool ultimately yes, it’ll flourish in my opinion.

Of course I’m yet to try it out and I can only say the above having use WordPress in the past even with its vast amount of plugins it has its own limitations - I’d probably say the loading speed and the ease of being hacked was a big draw back as both have happened to me in the past .

[phenomlab]

@jac The loading speed is an unfortunate drawback of WordPress, and it’s lack of security “out of the box” (as you well know) can be problematic, which is why I always reference this guide I wrote some time ago as a way of working around that

https://content.sudonix.com/hardening-wordpress/

The real issue with WordPress slowness is the fact it is written in PHP.

@phenomlab
Hi, I just created my blog in Ghost, I really do not like that there is no Hebrew support, and that it is not possible to simply enter custom css.
Beyond that I love the platform
I’m new to the platform, so I might be wrong.

[phenomlab]

@elhana-fine Hmm - does this go any way to assist with that issue ?

@phenomlab
Thanks so much phenomlab, I will check it out. Regarding css is there a magic solution that can help me?

[phenomlab]

@elhana-fine No problems. The RTL CSS in the above article should help - let’s try that first and see where it takes us.

[elhana fine]

@phenomlab
Thank you very much friend, I am very glad it helped me.

Is there a way to translate a topic assessment?
I want the whole blog to be in my language.
For example blog - בלוג

[phenomlab]

@elhana-fine glad it helped. I’m pretty sure Hebrew language support is built into ghost as it’s part of the i18. I’ll get back to you.

[DownPW]

Ghost is like Wordpress, no need to pay ?
He can be heberged on personnal server ?

[elhana fine]

@downpw
Yes, it’s completely free (open source in GitHub) and hosted on your server.
Consider using this hosting guide on your server:

And if you run into difficulties, I’ll be happy to help you.

[DownPW]

Arf no problem if I can hosted myself.
wordpress being a gas factory, I will test this one

gas factory

That’s certainly the best description for WordPress I’ve heard in a while

Is it relevant to all subject assessments?
Today I built a new ghost and I use it in another theme, is it effective for the other theme as well?

[phenomlab]

@elhana-fine sorry. Not sure what you mean ?

[JAC]

@phenomlab I’m really looking forward to trying out ghost fairly soon. Should I underestimate the fact I’m not a writer? .
