@Madchatthew Iโd always post for the reasons I stated above. Itโs useful information and could save someone else the headache.
Anyone using Ghost ?
-
@phenomlab Well, like you said, itโs fast, so no need to compare to php apples.
-
-
@jac Yes, very, but not cheap at $100

No, very expensive for what it is!

I do like the simplicity of Ghost in all honesty.
I think Iโd start with a free theme just to be sure
-
@jac it would be interesting to see how and what @justoverclock has done with his Ghost installation. Do you have a link I can look at?
-
For anyone looking at a simple way to blog the new recommendation from @phenomlab is Ghost CMS.
Itโs Wordpress OUT, and Ghost IN it seems! *preference based .
From my early viewing Ghost loads up super quick! it also seems very streamlined and modern compared to Wordpress, less bloat with the plugins, and more of a limited approach, something that Iโd say helps, but the thing that clearly separates the two CMSโs is speed 100%! I mean who wants a slow loading site? - not me!
I can only say my experience is purely on a viewing basis and not from the admin area (back-end) or anything of that nature, itโs just purely from the front-end only.
Hereโs some examples of sites using Ghost.

Very nice, very simple design!

The same with your blog Mark, very simple and nice to see the continuation of the Sudonix theme .
-
Ok Mark, are there any drawbacks that youโve come across since using Ghost?
-
@jac Only drawbacks I would note are below
- Not as โsimpleโ as WordPress in the sense of โa plugin for everythingโ
- No โnativeโ comment support (youโd need to use an external service) - not an issue for me, as I use NodeBB
The benefits hugely outweigh the negatives
-

Exactly. A lot of time and effort spent there

Absolutely it does seem that way of โa little is more than enoughโ itโs the stance they are going for.
Maybe I guess people donโt want to be bombarded with adding plugin after plugin, but if youโre like me and itโs all youโve ever known of until now then itโs certainly what youโre going to keep going back to every time.
The key issue or way of thinking for people who are looking to use Ghost (and I donโt know a lot about it but itโs the way Iโd look at it) - can I get what I want from it, will it be useful as letโs say a football website, probably not because that would mostly likely require plugins, but will it be useful as a blog tool ultimately yes, itโll flourish in my opinion.
Of course Iโm yet to try it out and I can only say the above having use WordPress in the past even with its vast amount of plugins it has its own limitations - Iโd probably say the loading speed and the ease of being hacked was a big draw back as both have happened to me in the past .
-
@jac The loading speed is an unfortunate drawback of WordPress, and itโs lack of security โout of the boxโ (as you well know) can be problematic, which is why I always reference this guide I wrote some time ago as a way of working around that
https://content.sudonix.com/hardening-wordpress/
The real issue with WordPress slowness is the fact it is written in PHP.

@phenomlab
Hi, I just created my blog in Ghost, I really do not like that there is no Hebrew support, and that it is not possible to simply enter custom css.
Beyond that I love the platform
Iโm new to the platform, so I might be wrong. -
@elhana-fine Hmm - does this go any way to assist with that issue ?
-
@phenomlab
Thanks so much phenomlab, I will check it out. Regarding css is there a magic solution that can help me? -
@elhana-fine No problems. The RTL CSS in the above article should help - letโs try that first and see where it takes us.
