After seeing this post on the NodeBB forums, I wanted to get an idea of what members here think is important when joining a community, and the primary reasons they remain members and choose to keep coming back.

I obviously have my own views around how communities should work, and if you look at the below blog post from me some time ago, it’s easy to see why I think this is important

Really interested in views as to me, this makes for an even greater experience
@phenomlab my list would be:
@crazycells said in What matters to you most when joining a community?:
@phenomlab my list would be:
- quality of the content
- good discussions
- welcoming atmosphere
- effective moderation
Although you can still join a community for one reason, I believe all are important to “stay” in the community and come back.
the friendliness of the people of the forum and the staff
the quality of the subjects, debates raised and tréposnes brought
@crazycells great points here - thanks. I’d like to think all of these requirements are met.
@DownPW agree. I think the warm and welcoming atmosphere is what makes people return. I like the idea that members feel free to come and go as they please, but even if they are away for a while, they come back to the same experience every time.
