AI... A new dawn, or the demise of humanity ?

Microsoft: ‘ever present’ AI assistants are coming
-
@phenomlab great just another way for MS to take your information except now the AI will have direct access to your computer whether you want it to or not.
-
@Madchatthew Yes, I have to admit, I thought the same.

Interesting article describing the pros and cons of AI

This is disgraceful and abhorrent in every manner. Truly shocking that this is even allowed
-
@phenomlab Should we be worried by this? Given the article I referenced around Character.AI, I’m not convinced. In this case, the voice may no longer be inside your head, but via the speakers of your device.

@phenomlab That gut punch article is despicable. Why people have to do that kind of thing is beyond me. Talk about disrespectful.
The article about using AI to help those that hear voices is pretty cool. It is a unique way of dealing with them.

Yes, exactly. It’s awful, and there needs to be better deterrents in place to prevent it from happening in the fist place.

It could be, yes, but I wonder how this would work in the real world?

I think there would need to be some strict protocols in place and that it would only allowed to be used with a therapist that has full control of it. Could you imagine if it progressed to something that someone could have on their phone and they were using it at home or out in public somewhere and basically got a mind of it’s own in the process and learned from the environment around it. That could be dangerous to the person using it and to others.

That’s my biggest fear right there.

Daisy, the AI granny who keeps scammers occupied.

Having recently experienced the loss of a family member, this literally sent a shiver up and down my spine.
To me, it’s morally wrong on every level to even consider this, but I’m open to debate.
Eternal You tells the story of a human experiment: what does it do to people to resurrect their deceased loved ones in order to talk to them? Who takes responsibility for the psychological and ethical consequences? And do we even want all this?
-
@phenomlab my initial reaction is wtf, I feel all frustrated all of a sudden .
-
Some people may be open to the idea but I certainly think it’s strange to say the least .

Seems very odd to sue a company you co founded…
-
@phenomlab he’s off his head .
-
@phenomlab In regard to the Eternal You, there is a movie that was made about this. First it starts off with phone messaging, then phone calls and then she orders a robot human that looks like her husband. They have the AI use all of the social media posts and give it extra information and it learns from what she says. I think ultimately it was a horror movie but you it is crazy that they are actually doing that. People need to grieve and move on. Not forget of course, but move on and grow.

@phenomlab Is it me or do these big corporate lawsuits just mainly mean that someone wants something from another company or to use the lawsuit as leverage to get what they want, whether it be money or what have you. Do you think he really cares about whether or not a monopoly is being done, or just tying up their resources while he has something in the background that he is planning.
It seems like these corporate lawsuits always have another motives behind them. I don’t have any examples of course, but just curious what others thought in that regard.
