@phenomlab yeah you have a good point there. Information over lives just doesn’t seem to be worth it. And being the one to release that info and be the one who first put it out there, you may be on the right track about the notoriety.
Goodbye OnePlus, hello Samsung
-
@phenomlab Booom, blast from the past! I remember having one of those now actually. LOL that is crazy!
-
@Madchatthew yeah, and the snap on covers you could get for them!
-
@phenomlab oh yeah LOL, I remember those. I had one of those as well. Usually didn’t they have a clip on them so you could put them on your belt?
-
@Madchatthew OMG yes, they did have a belt clip! I think that’s where Blackberry got their design from. Another device I really liked.
-
@phenomlab yeah I liked those Blackberrys as well. I never had one but played around with one that I knew had one.
-
My Samsung a53 wouldn’t charge so I’ve done away with Samsung and got a Nothing 2a.
A very similar sort of look to the iPhone. None or very little bloatware, decent battery life to boot.
-
@phenomlab wow! takes you back doesn’t it .

Nokia 5110 anyone
Didn’t Nokia have somewhat of a rebirth a few years back?

Have either of you used a phone where you could install and run ubuntu on it for phone software? I know they have roms out there for that and I think they also sell phones with a version of it installed.
-
@phenomlab yeap… this brings good and old memories…
I used to play snake and cover almost of all the screen… I still remember all of the ringtones on that phone…
nokia… connecting people…

I remember snake on that phone! That was an awesome game!!
-
@Madchatthew not tried it myself but am intrigued.
-
@phenomlab they have roms that will work on various phones. I am guessing that they would have a rom for your oneplus phone if you ever decide to play around with it. I was wanting to install it on one of my older samsung phones but they didn’t have a rom for it at the time.
-
@Madchatthew I traded in my old oneplus handset as a part exchange for the Samsung I now have
-
@phenomlab Nice! Now it seems like providers will have a deal where you can bring in any old phone and they will trade it for free for a new one. They had a deal like that with that new samsung fold phone. I was almost tempted to trade in the S8+ but I don’t need another phone laying around haha

Here is an article I found that names some of the different linux OSs for phones. Just for an example of what I mentioned above.

So I am always looking around at different phones and such just to see if there are better ones out there and that sort of thing. Have any of you heard about this company. If a part goes bad you can simply replace it yourself by ordering the part. They guarantee that their phones stay supported for at least five years and you just replace a part that goes bad if it does. It doesn’t look like you can get them in the US though.
-
@Madchatthew yes, I’ve seen this. Pretty sure they are available in the UK.
-
@phenomlab I just watched a video about fairphone and the guy in the video said that they support them for 8 years so you would definitely get what you pay for the phone out of it.
