@phenomlab that is the plan I chose. I am not sure how much it costs for additional web domains though. I don’t have a lot, but I can imagine the more you have the more money it will cost. I like with the email, they have it build in where you can create a fake email address and have it go to your real email, but your real email is protected and if you start getting spam you can delete that fake email and boom -> no more spam from that site.

@Madchatthew You get the same with most password managers to be fair - I use Bit Warden and wouldn’t be without it.

@Madchatthew This is ever more appealing to be honest. Whilst I have several domains, and it would be nice to protect them all in the same way, I think perhaps I’d only target the obvious ones (such as sudonix.org and probably phenomlab.com) that I use constantly. I am tempted. I like the product very much and having worked for a Swiss firm in the 90’s -> early 2000’s, I can certainly agree that their take on privacy is unparalleled.

@phenomlab That is one of the reasons I decided to switch to Proton. After doing a bunch of research and their take on privacy, it really appealed to me. Especially in this day and age where it seems like everyone and their mother and grandmother are trying to get at your information and companies like MS, Apple, Google and many others are just basically gathering your information and making money off of you.

Another thing I like about the Proton company is that they will adjust their pricing and features that are free based on how much money has been generated throughs subscriptions and donations.

@Madchatthew For the VPN side of things, I personally favour NordVPN as @JAC knows - I also have a referral code for anyone who wants to subscribe and save themselves some money.

NordVPN has a Smart DNS feature which is useful for Smart TV’s where you cannot install a VPN for example to watch content outside of your own jurisdiction, and their servers are RAM only meaning that nothing is being written to disk in terms of transactions. NordVPN’s speeds are inherently faster than Proton also

@phenomlab I had NordVPN and it worked great. I just switched to proton because it is a part of their software suite and included in the unlimited package and such.

@phenomlab I do. It comes with extras for each of the apps. It would be nice if the proton drive space was more, but it is better than nothing.

@Madchatthew I upgraded to the family plan, the Wife is using it too, I think it’s 500gb of space and you can up it / share it across 6 members.

@JAC Yeah I thought about doing the family plan, but I don’t think my wife would want to switch everything over. So for now I just did it for me.

@Madchatthew It’s the best way, see whether you like the products yourself and switch everyone over if you’re happy with it. I spent a good year on an individual plan before I took the plunge, it’s about £14 extra then I was paying, but it’s worth it if there’s a few of you to use it.

If you just want a standalone password manager then I’d probably go with BitWarden, I purely signed up to Proton VPN first and foremost and then gradually they added more and more products which I liked so I paid the extra, which I don’t think is overpriced for everything you get.

Yeah Bitwarden sounds really good too. I got proton mainly for the email, but those other apps come with it.

@JAC True. NordVPN have a similar offering, and will charge for it no matter if you have the full-blown package like I have. If they offered a discount or another incentive, I may well have taken a different view, but to me, it just seems like easy revenue.

Much like Surfshark do, they are owned by the same company now and you can tell, there’s always something extra cropping up like dedicated IPs, loads of discounts thrown your way which is fair enough but I don’t think you should have to them thrown at you constantly .

Fortunately Proton have kept things simple and have all products under one roof should you buy the right package.
