Google Pixel announced with eye watering price
-
Seriously Google, have you lost your mind? Who in their right mind is going to pay the asking price for this?
However, on the flip side, it’s rare to find a technology company who manufactures a “lesser” budget friendly device, yet uses the same CPU and amount of RAM as their premium models.
-
@phenomlab this is too much ~$1920 for a phone?
I can buy an iPhone, an Apple watch and a Mac computer from the Education store with the same amount of money… lol…
-
how much was the foldable surface phone?
apple will price their foldable phone somewhere around $1.5 or $2k
-
@crazycells Yes, it’s an insane amount of money - the tech on offer really does not warrant the asking price in my view.
-
@Hari That’s a really good point - see below
This is also way over priced.
-
And here it is - still with an eye watering price, and I’ve seen rumours that it has similar issues to those experienced by Samsung not so long ago
It apparently has a note in the packaging warning that the device is “fragile” (putting it mildly of course).
However, let’s be realistic here. Who on earth is going to pay this sort of money for what is effectively a tablet (albeit foldable).
-
@Panda I know you have a flip phone, and was curious if you had contemplated purchasing one of these?
-
@phenomlab
I do like the Flip phone idea, smaller to carry.
Although the Flip 4 has a very tall but narrow screen.
Its higher than wider even when folded in half. (85mm high x 70mm wide)
It would have been better if square when folded, so that the total ratio was 1:2 when open.
Its not good to use on a number of websites.The Fold is bigger, and opens up like a book. Is handy to have bigger screen, especially with my aging presbyopia, but it is still quite large folded.
I have never used iPhone, as USB C charging is criteria for me, as don’t want to carry multiple leads. I hear that iPhone 15 out in Aug should be USB C.
I’m more of an Android user, but where Apple do have the edge is their watches. I have a Galaxy4 watch and it isnt great, especially the ‘cellular apect’ which doesn’t work well.
If I ever want an Apple watch I would have to get a iphone. -
@Panda I use an iPhone for work, but am an Android user in the personal front. USB C is evidently the industry standard from 2024

Do you have a cellular watch @phenomlab ?
-
@Panda no. I did toy with the idea of a watch, but really had no feasible use for one. I personally only want a watch to tell me the time, and consider any tech like this to be overkill.
-
@phenomlab
Yes, especially if the Networks haven’t got the cellular infrastructure properly sorted.
I got Galaxy4 watch when it first came out, but the cellular Network had config issues.
The watch worked on bluetooth with mobile in range, but I got it with aim to be mobile free at times.
I had calls to Customer Support to try and get the cellular connectivity functioning, which was supposed to happen if say you leave your phone at home.
I gave up with it in the end, its now an expensive ornament.
Its not even a good watch as runs out of battery in less than a day! Lol -
